Chumur Lineage

Chumur is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist monastery rooted in both the Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery’s founder, the previous Chhoje Rinpoche (Chhoje Ngawang Trinley), was a lineage holder of the Drukpa Kagyu tradition.

Chhoje Ngawang Trinley’s root teacher, Drukpa Yongdzin Rinpoche, one of the great mahasiddhas and tertons of Tibet, advised him to build the monastery in the Chumur region in Ladakh at a site that would be of great benefit to both the local community and the world at large.

The previous Chhoje Rinpoche, an oracle and highly accomplished yogi, lived in retreat at the monastery for many years. During the later part of his lifetime, many people came to receive his blessing, as well as to study and practice under him.

The teaching, study, and practice at Chumur Monastery currently focuses on the Dudjom Tersar lineage.
